The course intends to provide a design-led approach, challenging PhD students to test and verify on a given context the outcomes of their research and the manifold issues connected with their topic.
The Course is an ideal challenging framework to develop the interdisciplinary character of ABC PhD doctoral course.

The Course is an ideal challenging framework to develop the interdisciplinary character of ABC PhD doctoral course.
The course deals with design-oriented research, aiming at verifying theories and principles for intervention when facing the manifold integrated challenges posed by the complexity of a real case study: working in pre-existent and historical buildings, sites and landscapes while proposing sustainable and resilient strategies for the built environment.
Design-oriented research in the doctoral path is necessary to link theoretical to operational practice, reflecting on the raison d’être of the project, its tools and theories in shaping the physical environment, facing new challenges while being able of re-writing the questions.
Every year the course will tackle issues pertaining to main challenges in both European and extra-EU contexts, thus offering a broad vision of current international debate, methodologies and approaches.
The Course will address architectural, urban design and landscape proposals within the framework of the research lines active in the department and related to the transformation of the built environment.
Students will be trained in the involved topics thorough lectures, presentation of theoretical researches and case studies. The workshop training formula promotes active learning and encourages participation and debate among students.
The programme will engage PhD candidates, professors from ABC Department and other PhD schools in debates, lectures, critiques and workshop design activities
The course is taught in English, alternating lectures to workshop design activity and critiques
