Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The course aims at providing the basic knowledge of BIMs (Building Information Modeling) in the framework of the AEC (Architecture-Engineering-Construction) industry. Students will be familiar with BIM's approach, intended as both a technology and a process. The goal of the course is to provide students with the theoretical fundamentals of BIM and the practical skills to model buildings and facilities.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi

Lectures lead students to:

• Work in a common data environment

• Understand and manage the information delivery cycle

• Understand drawings management according to different level of details

• Understand the fundamentals of BIM levels compliance

• Understand the key BIM standards and how to work towards compliance

• Be aware of the recent developements in the Italian/European legistlation about BIM

• Identify the opportunities and issues represented by the adoption of BIM

The project laboratory allows students to:

• Manage projects in a BIM based software

• Model buildings from the Architectural/Structural point of view

• Combine geometrical properties with time and cost for cost forecasts/estimates

• Analyze modelled facilities from different point of views

Argomenti trattati

BIM overview:

• Definitions and role of BIM w.r.t. CAD

• Information sharing along a construction life time

• Impact on Civil Engineering applications in design, construction, management and documentation of buildings,   infrastructures, plants and construction sites

Data in BIM:

• Acquisition, modelling and visualization

• From 3D to 6D BIM

• Data quality, interoperability and standards

• Animations, rendering, walk-through and clash detection

BIM life cycle and implementation:

• Conceptual design, visualization, documentation, construction, operation, renovation

Environmental issues:

• life-cycle assessment, building sustainability and environmental impact assessment

Large part of the course is dedicated to the project laboratory. The project is calibrated to give the basic knowledge of one of the most popular BIM based software in the AEC industry. Several exercises will be presented, according to the ongoing lectures.

Prerequisiti

No pre-requisites.

Modalità di valutazione

Evaluation of the project laboratory assignments and written test on the contents of the lectures, testing the student's capability to re-elaborate connections between the different topics.
