Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

This course is designed to provide students with the concepts and instruments necessary for a) assessing from an economic perspective the adoption of technologies in the renewable energy, energy efficiency and digital domains; b) understanding the impact of emerging societal, technological, economical and regulatory-political trends on the business models of companies in the energy value chain; c) understanding and analysing industrial practices in terms of their energy performance and identifying the potential of energy-efficient technologies and services within the energy value chain.

The course fits into the overall program curriculum pursuing some of the defined general learning goals. In particular, the course contributes to the development of the following capabilities:

  • Understand context, functions, processes in a business and industrial environment and the impact of those factors on business performance.
  • Identify trends, technologies and key methodologies in the energy sector.
  • Design solutions applying a scientific and engineering approach (Analysis, Learning, Reasoning, and Modeling capability deriving from a solid and rigorous multidisciplinary background) to face problems and opportunities in a business and industrial environment

The course leverages the following teaching methodologies: lectures, in-class exercises, seminars with industrial experts and project work.

Prerequisiti

No prerequisite (Topics covered within the course 097350 - MANAGEMENT OF ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY represent a useful background for this course)

Modalità di valutazione

The final course evaluation is based on:

  • Project work:  The project should take the form of a systematic analysis of industrial practices by making use of the concepts and instruments discussed in class.; it is to be implemented in a group of 4-5 students. The project is intended to evaluate a student’s ability to critically analyse a novel problem and discuss possible alternative solutions, by integrating different perspectives and contributions emerging in the team.
  • Oral exam: is intended to evaluate a student’s ability to discuss and link different topics of the course.

Composition of the final grade:

Project work (the report and the presentation) = 80%; Oral exam = 20%.
