What’s an on-site Project Work?
It is a new educational method done in collaboration with businesses interested in developing innovative projects in the field of mechanical engineering.
The project, proposed by a company on a subject pertinent to the master’s program, proposes a theme that will feature innovation and process/product improvement and will help students grow their competence and skills.
The Project Work is worth 6 CFU (i.e. ECTS) credits and will also award a mark (on the standard out-of-30 grading scale) for each and every team member, based on her/his involvement and performance.
Risultati di apprendimento attesi
Upon the fulfilment of the requirements of this project work, students will gain the capability to apply knowledge and understanding as follows:
- capability to apply what they have learned in the other courses of the study programme for the solution of industrial problems;
- capability to work in team with colleagues with possibly a complementary background.
Furthermore, they will gain the following:
- capability to learn autonomously specific knowledgerelated to the application field of the project task;
- capabilty to communicate to field practitioners.
Parties Involved and Duration of the Project Work activities
Company Tutor – for contents definition and project supervision
Academic Tutor – university professor with the relevant competencies who coordinates the activities and sets the method.
Students – a team of 3-6 students
144 hours carried out during either the first or the second term and including students’ autonomous work, classroom work and meetings with both company and academic tutor (6/8 along the term either on-site or on-campus).
Themes Assignment and Teams Creation
A commission appointed by the program supervisor will be in charge of:
1. selecting a competent faculty supervisor;
2. setting up the teams, based on the preferences given by students about the available project themes. If too many preferences fall on a single theme, students with higher merit (weighted average mark on achieved credits) will be given priority.
Study Plan Presentation
Passing the Project Work means obtaining 6 CFU credits that affect the student’s weighted average mark, which contributes to the definition of the degree final score. The Project Work has to be selected in the 2nd year study plan, either for the first or second term. The Project Work credits are not part of the final test credits amount.
Students must have gained 49 credits to be admitted to the project work activities.
Modalità di valutazione
The evaluation is performed by the academic tutor also involving the company tutor and takes into account the achievements of the project activity and the personal contribution of the student in the project activities: regular meetings with the academic tutor and the final presentation in front of a panel of professors and representatives from industry will allow to check the achievement of application abilities, autonomous learning abilities and communication skills.
