Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The course gives an overview of important artistic, digital and interactive experiments that are present in today’s international scene, and shows how to analyse them from the standpoint of the involvement paradigms - sensory, cognitive, symbolic, emotional - that they propose. 
The course also faces the themes of aesthetics and the formal qualification connected with interaction; it proposes approaches for the creative and experimental use of digital technology and investigates the important construction processes based on the involvement and dynamics of interaction.
The course also gives the opportunity to experiment the creative processes used in the field of digital art, through some guided exercises of an artistic, digital and interactive character that are present to today’s international scene, and to analyse them from the standpoint of the involvement paradigms - sensory, cognitive, symbolic, emotional - that they propose. 
The course also faces the themes of aesthetics and the formal qualification connected with interaction; it proposes approaches for the creative and experimental use of digital technology and investigates the important construction processes based on the involvement and dynamics of interaction.


Risultati di apprendimento attesi

Students:
- develop autonomous learning skills in the field of phenomena and cultural and artistic events based on the use of digital technology (learning skills)
- acquire the ability to research and analyse the artistic phenomena (learning skills)
- develop skills in understanding the symbolic and cultural result of the artistic artefacts in different social contexts in which they are generated or proposed (knowledge and understanding)
- develop the ability to translate their knowledge of the different forms of digital art into stimuli and starting points for the development of qualified interactive project solutions (making judgements). 


Argomenti trattati

The course offers a wide survey on the different types of digital art, through an historical overview that traces the evolution of the relationship between art and technology from the 1950's to the present. The topic will be explored using a selection of significant case studies that include computer art, interactive installations, net art, software art, game art, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality.
Some of the lessons will be dedicated to the specific task of designing multimedia environments and exhibitions, with the analysis of relevant case studies and a practical exercise.

There are no pre-requisites for attendance.


Modalità di valutazione

The final grade will be assigned considering the results of:

1. a written test
2. a short essay
3. a multimedia design project
