Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The laboratories, in continuity with the Product Development design Studio 2 programme, is aimed at the in-depth and specialistic acquisition of industrial product executive design skills. The course supplies the instruments needed to structure an “engineered” design process that is suitable for facing the complexity of the new product development process. The objective of the project is to operate a synthesis between product form and functions, in relation to the restrictions set by production. The course also programmes, in addition to some lectures, a wide project activity carried out in groups and supported by inspections carried out by the professors. Co-tuition by external partners is also programmed.

Students:
- knowledge and understanding: know and understand the project and research processes, methods and instruments in support of the innovation procedure;
- applying knowledge and understanding: can interpret the opportunities deriving from innovations in the materials and production and representation techniques field;
- making judgements: can integrate the knowledge acquired from the different theoretical contributions received and apply them to project complexity management. - can formulate project choices that are informed, responsible, and based on available information;
- communication skills: autonomously and in groups, students can develop the ability to present and discuss their projects to all the players involved in the project process.


Argomenti trattati

The course deals with the relationship between the foundations of design methods and practice and the processes and constraints of industry. It provides tools to set up a “design engineered” process and to face the complexity related to mass-production, to the quality of the process and the product, starting from the prerogatives of designers, which are related not only to the functional aspects, but also to perceptual and subjective elements, that add value to artefacts.

The course is structured around theory and practical cases, in order to keep a tight relationship between the method and its application during production and comparison with users and market.

Prerequisiti

To attend the Final Synthesis Laboratory, students must pass the 1st year laboratories.


Modalità di valutazione

The exam consists of a written test, which will evaluate the knowledge of the student on the contents of the course.
