051429 - LANDSCAPE AND INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN TECHNIQUES
Obiettivi dell'insegnamento
The course aim to provide a technical knowledge about basic facts in hydrology, river morphology and road/railway engineering
Risultati di apprendimento attesi
Knowledge and understanding: acquired technical knowledge about basic facts in hydrology, river morphology and road/railway engineering. These skills allow the students to deal with water systems and transport infrastructure in the field of landscape design and to relate with engineers and other technical specialists involved in landscape change processes;
Applying knowledge and understanding: can apply their knowledge, in reading real landscapes and regional spaces interested by transport and water networks; and in setting landscape design in these contexts;
Making judgements: have the ability to integrate knowledge and manage complexity, as well as to formulate judgments, including reflections on the inter-disciplinary themes related to the proposals formulated;
Communication skill: area able to communicate their reflections and design goals, as well as the knowledge and rationale underpinning these, to specialist and non-specialist audiences clearly and unambiguously;
Argomenti trattati
Human settlements, cultural landscape, an transport system
The Environmental impact of transport systems
Basic techniques of road design: horizontal and vertical alignment
Basic techniques of road design: cross section
Earthworks and landscaping
Road/railway structures: tunnels, viaducts and bridges
Road junctions
Roadsides: shoulders and safety barriers
Roadsides: noise and noise barriers
Roads and water: drainage systems
Roadsides: vegetation and planting
Roadsides: ecological defragmentation
Introduction: water, land, landscape and heritage
The Water Cycle: hydrological phenomena and water resources in our planet
Precipitation and runoff: quantification and analysis of water fluxes in watersheds
Flood and droughts: hydrological extremes in nature and anthropic perspectives, flooding risk assessment and mitigation
Rivers and natural watersheds: morphology and dynamics, anthropic alterations
Water infrastructure design and landscape degradation recovery
Urban catchments: land use and effects on the water cycle, water networks and urban landscape
Urban water re-balance strategies: design for water sensitive cities, flooding risk management
The topics will be presented as a combination of theoretical framework and analysis of case studies.
Prerequisiti
no required
Modalità di valutazione
The assessment procedure will be based on both oral and written tests.
The oral tests will be mainly based on questions intended to reveal the student’s ability to understand and discuss the various topics covered in the course program, connecting them with other concepts acquired in previous studies.
The written tests will be focused on theoretical multiple choice questions, theoretical open-ended questions and solution of problems.
