The course deals with communication principles as applied to computer-mediated communication. It provides an overview of the basic elements of communication sciences, rhetoric principles on how to create a “good text” (oral and written), history of communication and the main aspects of computer-mediated communication.
At the end of the course, students will:
- know the main communication principles, as applied to oral, written and “digital” communication
- be aware of the consequences on society of innovations in the field of communication technology
- be able to manage the preparation of effective communication "artifacts" - with a special focus on how to write a project proposal and how to prepare multimedia presentations/digital stories
The course will encompass a number of formats including: lectures by the teacher, laboratory classes, in which students write, revise and present laboratory reports; seminars, in which students prepare and lead discussions; independent research projects.
There is no specific reference text for the course; notes, handouts, papers and books’ excerpts will be provided during the course in digital form.

The final exam will consist of a written quiz and a group project. The final grade will be a weighted average, roughly according to this rule: 60% for the quiz and 40% for the project. More details will be provided during the course.
