Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

Teaching proposes two educational objectives: an understanding of the systemic impact of technology and digital platforms in the conception and fruition of products and services; an introduction to methods and instruments for analysing man-machine interaction and planning user experience for digital communication artefacts.


Risultati di apprendimento attesi

At the end of the course, students will:
- know and understand the user experience role and man-machine interaction when using and designing communicative artefacts and digital services;
- know how to apply the method and technological skills to analyse and plan a system, application or digital service in user-centred logic;
- autonomously or in a group, be able to develop and interpret the project problem, sharing and communicating the project choices made following a structured process that begins from an analysis of the user’s needs and their experience, and ends with the production of prototypes, developing attitudes to teamwork, leadership and collaborative designing between different disciplines and skills.


Argomenti trattati

Scope of the course: design and prototype a digital service or an interactive application applying user experience design, interaction design and user interface design approaches, tools and methodologies and digital technologies.

 

It's a comprehensive and intensive design workshop that combines design and technology, introducing and applying the key tools and methodologies of the user experience design and user centered design. Through lectures and workshops activities and supported by the teaching team, the students will work in teams to design, develop and present an interactive prototype combining software and hardware components (Arduino).

 

The course structure follows the key UX Design process stages:

  • User Centred Design approach and tools: putting people first with user research, personas, customer journey mapping and user scenarios.
  • Concept and service design: problem definition, ideation and conceptualisation starting from the research findings, development and presentation of a digital product/service concept.
  • Detailed design: information architecture, interaction model, wireframes, user interface design for different devices and screens, basic usability evaluation.
  • Digital technologies and prototyping: introduction to web and mobile apps technologies, tangible interaction, Arduino programming and internet of things.
  • Final presentation: Design solution consolidation, prototyping (digital and physical) and presentation with different visualisation techniques.

 

Each design workshop stage will end with a presentation that will be assessed by the teaching team and will contribute to the final grade.
The project brief will be provided at the beginning of the course.

 

This course is part of a cross-disciplinary integrated coordination: during the first weeks, there will be a set of joint lectures in common for the students of the three sections together. The course takes place in the second semester every Friday, full day: attendance is mandatory. An Arduino Kit is required, one for each project team.

There are no pre-requisites for attendance.

Projects evaluation criteria: 

  • How the project addresses the brief provided at the beginning of the course.
  • Creativity and innovation degree of the proposed design solution.
  • Complexity of the design solution and of the technical solution.
  • Prototype complexity and fidelity degree of the interactive simulation.
  • Quality of the deliverables and of the presentation.
  • How the tools and the metodologies introduced in the course have been applied.

Mid-phase presentations evaluations.
