Argomenti trattati

The Studio is structured in two parts and related deliveries and evaluations:

  1. (creative process): development . We will start to work from the first lesson with sketches and drawings. After initial reviews, we will work on study-models. Only at the end we will proceed to analogic drawings. And re-elaboration applied to a real site, that will result in an expanded design proposal.

  2. (site specific landscape design exprerience) final release of the project (drawings, models and a short text) to be discussed in a public final review.

In the fist part of the Studio (creative process), the proposed design work is a methodology which starts from a creative research and free interpretation of a site independent subject, chosen from everyday life. With the analysis, re-elaboration and re-interpretation of the formal qualities of the object we try to discover new points of view, in order to develop a proposal that will be insert in a real contemporary landscape or urban open space context, characterized by specific conditions, qualities and resources.

In the second part of the Studio (site specific landscape design experience ) the relation between a re-interpretation process and the real condition and eventual limiting factors of a contemporary context leads to a creative cycle and design practice open towards a site specific proposal.

Independent working is highly recommended in the first part and appreciated as a way to enhance the individual aptitude and personal processes. Couples teamwork is allowed in the second part of the course.

Mode and time of the deliveries will be provided with the class schedule at the beginning of the semester.

Modalità di valutazione

Each part of the studio will be subject to an evaluation and will make an average with the final revue.

The exam consist in the final work presentation. Students are expected to present their proposal with a number of A1 panels, an A4 booklet with a short text and a slideshow and a model.

Evaluation is individual.

Students will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

- students’ capacity to discuss their design objectives and choices and to critically address issues, in relationship to the context and the resources of the site

- students' ability to communicate their work in a clear and appropriate way. Drawing and linguistic accuracy in all design process will be especially evaluated.

- engagement in the workshop activities including lectures, seminars and group discussions. Learning skills in terms of autonomy and self-organization ability.

- appropriate knowledge of the assigned bibliography and individual ability of critical elaboration.

The student's progress will be part of the evaluation, as much as the obtained design results. Since we work on a personal continuous creative process, a 100% presence is request.
