Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi |
Goals
Manufacturing companies must be able to design and modify their production systems which are continuously evolving together with the products they produce. The course provides a framework, quantitative methods and relevant competences to design manufacturing systems and to manage their lifecycle in coordination with the lifecycle of products and processes in order to enhance the industrial competitiveness.
At the end of this course the student will be able to analyze and design a reconfigurable production system while considering the relations with the lifecycle of products and processes.
Topics
Manufacturing Strategy and business models related to the coevolution of product, process and system: Manufacturing systems lifecycle, strategic and technical aspects of flexibility and reconfigurability, examples of flexible and reconfigurable manufacturing/de-manufacturing systems.
Strategic design of Manufacturing systems. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and stochastic programming techniques for the design of evolving manufacturing systems considering uncertainty and multiple objectives.
Technical design of Manufacturing systems. Relations between technological specifications and production system typologies. Continuous-time Markov chains, approximate analytical methods, Gradient-based methods for the optimization of manufacturing systems.
Design of Manufacturing Systems Control. Optimization of token based production policies. Hedging point policies.

Note Sulla Modalità di valutazione |
Organization and Exams
Class-works in computer-lab for applying methodologies and tools to manufacturing systems engineering problems.
A technical visit to an industrial plant will be organized.
The assessment will consist of a final exam (written test) to check the learning of concepts, models and techniques analyzed in the course, the ability to model, analyze, and design a production system as well as planning the improvement phase of an evolving system. Students will be given the possibility to improve the final grade through an optional oral exam and/or an optional project work related to the topics of the course.
