Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi

Objectives

The course has the aim to present the fundamental aspects related to the assessment of seismic risk and seismic damage scenario for a site or area and some elements about seismic emergency activities. The importance of the identification of the suitable methodologies for the different phases of the assessments will be particularly highlighted.
The course is strictly integrated with the others of the ITEM module, a common project will be developed by the students and experts' seminars will be proposed.

Contents

    • Earthquake phenomena: definition of the phenomena and different types of measures;
    • Seismic hazard: definition, parameters, assessment methodologies;
    • Site effects: Lithological and morphological amplifications: definition, data, assessment methodologies;
    • Seismic vulnerability of buildings: definition, different assessment methodologies;
    • Seismic vulnerability of lifelines: definition, assessment methodologies;
    • Outlines about seismic vulnerability of special buildings: different approaches for cultural heritage or strategic buildings;
    • Seismic risk: definition and evaluation methods;
    • Seismic scenarios: definition and evaluation methods;
    • Post-earthquake Usability assessment: assessment organization and methodologies;
    • Seminaries about seismic risk and emergency management (in common for the  ITEM module) held by experts in different fields of the seismic risk/emergency;
    • Application classes: development in groups of a seismic damage scenario to a case study (Arcgis Maps);
    • Common Laboratory of the courses of the ITEM module: the students have to design, in small groups, an applications devoted to manage an aspect of a seismic crisis. 

Exam

The exam consists in the oral discussion of the developed project and in the oral discussion of the topics of the course.
