Fashion and communication are two areas that have always worked in pair to convey a style, a brand or a single product. The course is aimed at providing students with a clear perspective about communication and the media industry peculiarities with special regard to the fashion world. It is made up of two parts.

Part 1: Media and society 

This general part provides an overview of the many elements of the contemporary media scene, their features, the way they function and the way they can be used. Topics will be: what is communication; media texts; media institutions; media audiences; advertising; new media and social media.

The study of the book Media and Society (by Graeme Burton) will be facilitated through group works. All groups will deliver 5 or 6 presentations and a written report.

Part 2: Fashion styling

A more focused part aims at exploring, by means of exercises, some specific cases of use of communication means in the fashion world.

The profession of fashion stylist will be scrutinized through the analysis of interviews to London fashion stylists, including a comparison with Milanese fashion stylists and a comment about the relationship between fashion styling and fashion blogs. 

Further literature will be provided along the classes. 


Note Sulla Modalità di valutazione

The finalk mark will result by the mean between the assessments of part 1 and part 2.

Part 1: The individual performance (attending classes, participation, presentations) (50%) + the group's written report (50%) will be assessed.

Part 2: Written report (group score) = 50%; participation: active attendance of classes, presentation, and discussion (individual score) = 50%.

For those who are not able to attend the classes is possible to pass the course taking an oral exam dealing with the bibliography given on this web page.
