Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi

A Porto plot is the proposed site for the exercise to be developed during the first semester. With the program presented students should think and develop basic concepts about different kinds of city spaces - public space and private space. They should also analyze and study different typologi¬cal solutions regarding distribution and articulation of the several elements of the program.
The chosen plot is an urban void in the city of Porto, which actually needs to be filled - it is situated in the North bank of the Douro River. The adjacent area is mainly residential and the proposals should be a complement to the existing built context. Students, in addition to the close relationships with the existing built environment, should also take into consideration the other references: the opposite bank - its buildings and vegetation, the river and the bridges. We also think that the topography changes, one of main geographical features of Porto, may be an interesting topic that allows a variety of responses from students.
The solutions to be developed should be based upon and reflected in the different elements of the project (drawings, models and other forms of representation), articulating, at every step, the levels of information and content specific to each scale of representation.
During the site visit the students will have the opportunity to understand the city athmosphere, visit several buildings of the city and discuss about their own ideas and concepts for the proposed site.'
