Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi

The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical and operational principles of the detailed design process related either to the technical specification of building performances and to the economic valuation of the construction works, of the building and of their surroundings. Within this area of interest, students will acquire competencies related to the understanding of the building process (i.e. the whole life cycle of buildings from planning, design, tender, bid, construction, handover, operation, maintenance and disposal) with particular focus on the detailed design and on the techniques and models for project valuation.

The course is structured in two integrated modules of “building technology design” and of “project evaluation” and it faces the theme of the detailed design development, with the objective to strengthen the ability of the students to control the different design stages.

The module of “building technology design” deals  - by means of lessons, seminars and class workshop – with the following themes: analysis of the different stages (specific content and interface with other stages) involved in the building process; role, competencies and responsibility of the different operators involved in the building process; design and development process; methods and tools for design process control (objectives, technical information, drawings and graphical information); relationship between time, cost and quality in the building process; identification and management of the different constraints (standards and regulations, environmental constraints, the context, morphological and technological constraints, etc.); systems, sub-systems and components; performance specifications and performance based design. 

The module of “project evaluation” deals with the following themes: life-cycle costing and financial analysis of building projects; organizational models; analysis techniques of projects; project control and scheduling; technical and economical contents of design deliverables; bill of quantities and cost analysis; reference database for construction costs.


Note Sulla Modalità di valutazione

The exam will be carried out with a written test, with an oral discussion and with a review of the exercise developed during the class workshop.
