Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi

1. Amplifiers

Operational Amplifiers (OpAmp): voltage-mode negative feedback, circuital configurations, parameters-induced errors, small- and large-signal analysis.

Frequency response of OpAmps. Bode diagrams of ideal and real frequency response.

Stability of circuits employing OpAmps. Off-chip frequency compensation techniques.

Advanced OpAmps: instrumentation (INA), isolation (ISO), current-feedback (CFA), current (CMA, Norton), and transconductance (OTA) amplifiers.

Case studies of circuits employing OpAmps and SPICE circuital simulations.

2. Converters

Basics of sampling. Sample&Hold (S&H) circuits. Static and dynamic performances. Feedback S&H and stability issues.

Digital-to-Analog converters (DAC) and Analog-to-Digital converters (ADC): basic architectures, dynamic performances, SNR and THD spectra, timings.

Advanced ADCs: interpolation, folding, half-flash, multistep, time-interleaving structures.

Under- and Over-sampling. Sigma-Delta modulators: architectures, noise-shaping, performances.

Case studies of circuits employing S&Hs, DACs and ADCs and SPICE circuital simulations.

3. Microcontrollers

Microcontrollers: characteristics, architectures, program and data memories, data-sheets.

Development systems: programmers, simulators, emulators, starter kits.

Internal peripherals: I/O port, counter, timer, ADC. Auxiliary circuits: reset, oscillator, interrupt, watchdog.

Case studies of circuits employing µC.


Note Sulla Modalità di valutazione

The course is based on about 60 hours of teaching, plus about 32 hours of class exercises and 12 hours of hands-on laboratory practice on microcontroller-based boards and systems.

Course assessment is based on a written test (5 exercises on electronic circuits, covering the whole course contents) followed, in case of positive result (written test ranking higher than 17/30), by an oral discussion (again on  the contents of the whole course) plus a quick assessment on the expertise acquired attending the "Microcontrollers" lab.

The examination is passed if the overall mark is equal or higher than 18/30.

Official dates of the exam sessions will be given in advance and will be placed within the official exam sessions periods.
