059483 - THEMATIC STUDIO - ARCHITECTURE, INFRASTRUCTURE & URBAN FORM: BRESSO AIRPORT IN THE LOMBARDY REGION
Obiettivi dell'insegnamento
The Studio which addresses the question of the Architectural Design, on the various scales, in its complexity and multi-disciplinary nature. The studio experience, which integrates the various disciplines that contribute to design education, teaches students, in theory and in practice, to develop and formulate original ideas, including in a research context.
During these studios, students must demonstrate, through an independent formulation of a project, that they are able to develop highly innovative solutions, mastering the entire design procedure and the multiple skills called into play. Indeed, students will be required to develop original solutions to topics that architects are faced with due to increasingly complex problems on the European and international horizon.
Risultati di apprendimento attesi
Students:
- acquire knowledge and comprehension skills that provide them with awareness of the experimental work involved in design and express and apply original ideas in this area;
- are capable of developing design solutions coherent with the location and context, even in highly complex urban environments;
- are able to develop highly innovative solutions, mastering the entire design procedure and the multidisciplinary knowledge they have acquired.

Architecture, Infrastructure & Urban Form: The Bresso airport in the Lombardy region
Large-scale interventions, which guide the transformation of today’s cities, are often linked to the problem of mobility. Despite this, the relationship between urbanity and infrastructure is often ambiguous. On the one hand, the infrastructural flows represent key components of the urban transformations, on the other, their presence is conflictual and gradually disappearing from the public domain. Starting from this observation, the studio reflects on the specific case of the Bresso airport in the Lombardy region that is looking for new opportunities to evolve into a more integrated and technologically advanced hub for urban air mobility. The studio, through seminars and lectures will address both the reflective and the design dimension related to emerging infrastructural forms in urban contexts.
The studio is focused on a transcalar approach and design development. The coexistence of different design scales, territorial and architectural ones, constitutes a bridge in the methodology and in the articulation of the studio. The first phase regards the contextual reading and the normative analysis of the area, establishing the basis for a double design outcome: a large-scale scenario of possible future strategic assets for the Bresso Airport and an architectural vision related to part of it.
The design work will be developed in group and will be assessed through a discussion of the design proposal developed as the final product of the studio. The design proposal will be presented with printed panels and models. The group of students will explain the main features of the project in a brief presentation. The discussion will involve theoretical questions and questions intended to reveal the student’s ability to connect the topics covered in the studio with one another and with the previous ones.
