Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi

Through a blended theoretical and practical work, students will become familiar with the concepts of condition monitoring and assessment of assets, exploring methodologies for the collection and processing of condition data in different contexts. They will link condition assessment data to BIM and GIS data, exploring the representation, modelling and manipulation of information describing the assets and the built environment. The integrated and interoperable data (from the three different disciplines - AM/FM, BIM and GIS) are managed within a relational database to develop examples of typical use in the construction sector.

At the end of the course participants will:

- Have a basic knowledge of GIS science and of 3D city modelling (CityGML);
- Be able to create GIS 3D model with semantic information;
- Have basic knowledge of BIM, openBIM (IFC) and of geoBIM as the integration of BIM and GIS;
- Be able to transfer BIM data to GIS and to use georeferenced BIM models;
- Have a basic knowledge of Condition Assessment for built assets;
- Be able to use BIM or GIS model to store and retrieve information on Condition Assessment of buildings, infrastructures and urban areas;
- Have a basic knowledge of decision-making techniques in AM;
- Be able to compute Key Performance Indicators to prioritize asset maintenance according to the result of a condition assessment using either BIM or GIS data;

This is a residential course and will be given at the Lake Como School of Advanced Studies (https://lakecomoschool.org/), further details on the accomodation willi be provided to enrolled PhD studentds.

Note Sulla Modalità di valutazione

Every day the students will attend a workshop session in which they will work in groups with their peers on practical examples and tools taught in the morning. The final summative evaluation of each student will take place on the basis of the personal contribution provided during the workshop sessions (formative assessment) and the final presentation.

Calendario testuale dell'attività didattica

The module will run five days, 9:30 am - 5:30 pm (morning theory, afternoon workshop), according to the following schedule:

4th September 2023 – Focus: Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and modelling the built environment at the urban level.

5th September 2023 – Focus: Building Information Modelling (BIM), with particular reference to information management with open standards (IFC) and the relationship between BIM and GIS.

6th September 2023 - Focus: Building Condition Assessment (BCA) and the built environment. Examples will show how condition assessment data can be stored and used within BIM and GIS software.

7th September 2023 – Focus: Decision Making. How to use the data collected to make decisions in the field of building management (Asset and Facility Management)

8th September 2023 - Final seminar with guests and students’ final presentations. the students will discuss with experts in a round table the results of workshop assignments.
