MI (1300) - SCUOLA DI DOTTORATOAZZZZ055122 - ETHICAL ASPECTS OF RESEARCH ON DUAL-USE TECHNOLOGIES

Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi

The purpose of the course is to introduce ethical issues, with specific reference to research on dual-use technologies in general, focusing on - and with examples from - aerospace engineering but with a broader view, and challenge the capability of students to identify potential ethical issues in their activity, and develop personal strategies to address them.

Detailed program (each line refers to 4-5 hours of lecture/seminar/laboratory):

1. General ethical issues, with a focus on engineering, safety, accident investigation, and prevention.
2. Case studies of ethical issues in aerospace engineering: DC-10, Challenger STS, Concorde, unapproved aircraft parts.
3. Focus on dual-use technologies, with particular reference to aerospace research and applications: definitions, examples, regulations, assessment, and related work opportunities.
4. Seminars on case studies involving dual-use technologies, addressing technical and legal aspects, given by experts.
5. Laboratory on ethical issues detection and addressing.

Note Sulla Modalità di valutazione
