Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The course fits into the overall program curriculum pursuing some of the defined general learning goals.In particular, the course contributes the development of the following capabilities:

Understand context, functions, processes in a business and industrial environment and the impact of those factors on business performance

Develop new ideas and solutions in business and industrial scenarios evolving over time

Interact in a professional, responsible, effective and constructive way in a working environment, also motivating group members


Risultati di apprendimento attesi

By the end of the course, students will:

  1. have an ability to describe and analyse the main drivers of international trade
  2. gain an understanding of the most important models of international trade and be able to use models to make informed predictions
  3. be able to critically discuss the empirical validity of the these trade models and understand their real-world relevance
  4. have the ability to analyse and discuss the underlying factors behind firm-level and country-level patterns of international trade
  5. understand the impacts of trade flows on economic well-being, growth, and income distribution

Argomenti trattati

The course will introduce students to the main international trade models as well as the empirical validity of these models. We will analyze the causes and consequences of international trade. We will study issues, such as: why nations trade, what they trade, and who gains (or not) from this trade, what types of firms trade. Topics covered will include comparative advantage, gains from trade, the effects of trade on economic growth and wage inequality, multinationals.

Modalità di valutazione

Formal assessment:

At the end of the course there will be a written online multiple-choice question exam based on which the students will get 100% of the mark.

 

Informal assessment /feedback on progress (not counting towards the final mark):

-During practice sessions students will be working both in teams and individually, solving problem sets and engaging in discussions, both on which they will occasionally receive oral feedback which however will not count towards the final mark.

-There will be a mock exam where you can practice the final exam.
