Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The aim of the course is to explore the relationship between moving image and city within the traditional paths of research and thought. The students will find the main elements that in the movies and in television series define the value of architecture  as non only background elements but as significant contribution.

Students will confront issues relating to the relationship between city, place and image. Many art directors are architect and the film commissions all around the world need architects for evaluate the best places for the shootings.

Creativity and Architecture in the Movies  Piacenza Campus

The aim of the course is to explore the relationship between moving image and city within the traditional paths of research and thought. City is seen as stage of change and as producer of symbols and cultural forms. Cultural industries, like Cinema, TV and Digital Media, and Architecture are distinguishing features of modern and post-modern society and can interpret all its changes. The analysis of daily life, lifestyles and behaviour are the main elements of the course. The focus will be on visual components, space, line and shape, color and movement. Moreover, the screening of films and episodes of tv series will allow a thematic analysis of cinema used to narrate and reconstruct the sense of living in the past and in the future – from Ladri di biciclette to Kubrick’s movies.

The most significant topics will be:

- Birth of the image

- Study of symbols

- Urban lifestyles narrated by cinema

- Fiction as a tourist attraction

- Digital technology applied to the image

- Film Commission: image based on territory 


Prerequisiti

No prerequisites are required


Modalità di valutazione

The course is divided into a series of frontal lectures on the topics indicated and will include some basic texts. A series of tests will monitor student progress. Lastly, part of the course will be based on a case study. 

Students unable to follow the course are required to study the whole bibliography (compulsory and not).
