051876 - HISTORY OF DESIGN
The aim of the course is to stimulate in the student a critical reflection on contemporary design practice from the study of emblematic cases of past history. The object of study are the classic themes of product design, alternated with the deepening of specific cases and the analysis of new expressions in the world of design and architecture.
Risultati di apprendimento attesi
Students: - know and understand the fundamentals of design history and culture, with particular reference to the Italian context; - know how to decode historical and cultural contexts in order to propose innovations consistent with them.
The course will describe the main elements and movements in the history of Design, bringing to light the different possible approaches that today coexist and make Design a heterogeneous discipline, with multiple areas of interest. Some field-trips around the city will be organized in order to help students develop a more conscious and history-based approach to design phenomena.
During the course the students will also be asked to deliver short researches on several design topics to check their critical thinking skills in the field of historical studies.
There are no pre-requisites for attendance.
