Obiettivi dell'insegnamento
The course aim to explain and illustrate the Italian Experience in Furniture Design. The core of the program is focused on the knowledge generated from the advantageous relationships between the Italian production system and the network of professions involved in design. The collaboration between entrepreneurs and designers is a fundamental element of the design industry in Italy. The company's vision of entrepreneurs and their deep knowledge of technologies and materials have led the designers' creativity, forming a unique partnership that created the masterpieces of Italian design. Milan is the capital of Furniture Design. Its uniqueness comes from Italian history of art and architecture together with the creativity and the vision of entrepreneurs and designers in a territory with a strong tradition in manufacturing.

The course intends to form knowledgeable designers of the most advanced models of relationship between the product development processes and its developments.
Argomenti trattati
The Course is based on: - lessons introducing and explaining the “Italian design way” trough case studies, visits to companies, designers’ studios and showrooms, to let the students understand the elements of characterization of the Italian production model. - practical activities with the participation of an Italian furniture company and Italian designers. The course proposes a practical exercise that starts with a design brief, passes through a phase of context analysis and concludes with the development of a new product, linked to the concrete needs of the company, who provide briefing and support for students during project development within a learning-by-doing framework. Extra didactic activities: The course provides complementary activities to the teaching. These activities, which are not mandatory but strongly recommended, will take place mainly in the evening, outside the university and under the responsibility of participants. The course will propose: • Visits to museums and temporary exhibitions • Participation at events

The evaluation will take place on two different works developed by the students: - The analysis of a company and the proposal for its further development - The design of a product following the briefing of the company
