Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The objective of the course is to provide students with a basic knowledge of structural analysis and design for buildings and other structures. 

Some classes will be devoted to specific theoretical problems of  r.c. design and structural steel design

Some classes, will be devoted to show designs examples of actual structures deriving specific design rules. In particular, details of nodes, steel positioning, etc., will be shown and discussed.

 


Risultati di apprendimento attesi

Students will design a structure of an assigned building using concrete and/or steel construction materials.

Some classes will be  devoted to support the design activities of the students.  In case of need, some extra classes will be given, to enhance knowledge of structural analysis software packages, commonly used incurrent design  practice

Lectures and tutoring sessions will allow students to:

- know the most updated concepts and regulations about structural design;

- know basic concepts of conceptual design of structures;

- know how to draft a design report;

- understand how a structural design software works;

- learn preliminary and detailed structural modelling and analysis tools that can support the design of a structure.

 

The studio activities will allow students to:

- apply structural design strategies;

- critically select structural schemes and apply them to their own project;

- test the implications of different design choiches on their own project, simulating

a real-life design scenario;

- improve their ability to work in teams of people with different backgrounds;

- exercise their communication skills through the public presentation of their projects.

Prerequisiti

Pre-requisite is the basic knowledge of the principles of r.c. design and structural steel design.

Evaluation will be a discussion about the project carried out by the student during the course
