The course aims at providing the basic knowledge to approach a research career.
The Goal of this programme is to offer a wide range of one-day courses that may help PhD Students to build up their knowledge in research by providing introductory seminars on communication, research management, soft skills, research proposal preparation.
The Course will be organized in 1-day workshops, each one focused on one of the course topics. Each module may in principle be attended independently from the others, though some workshops may provide preparatory training useful for a specific following module. In order to gain the course credits, candidates are requested to attend at least 5 workshops. Each course will provide an assessment exam during the day or at the end of the workshop. Students must pass the exam in order to validate their participation. The maximum score for each exam is 10.

- 20/01/2020 CV WRITING
This module includes a training session based on analysis of CV and tips on how to write a good CV to raise career opportunities.
- 3/02/2020 CAREER PLANNING FOR PHD’S
Learn self-management skills for career planning and consider your current strengths and skills. Learn how to keep up to date with the job market, how to network as well as CV and interview skills.
- 17/02/2020 STORYTELLING FOR RESEARCHERS
Explore why storytelling can help you engage your audience, learn easy to use techniques and tools that are applicable to research presentations and find out how to speak so people listen.
- 2/03/2020 DIGITAL COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES
Starting from the individual talent and stories, the workshop will help structure the basis of an effective communication strategy in a networking prospective, in a disruptive and hands on way.
- 16/03/2020 LEADERSHIP AND PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
Develop your leadership style to build a team, support individual and create a strategic vision and learn key management tools focusing on challenges that arise in a variety of relevant contexts.
- 20/04/2020 PERSUASIVE / BUSINESS WRITING
This module introduces techniques to develop persuasion and communication skills, applying for funding, seeking promotion, publishing papers, influencing peers at conferences.
- 4/05/2020 TIME MANAGEMENT FOR PhD’s
Learn a combination of project management and time management skills and methods applied specifically to the challenge of completing a high quality PhD thesis on time with minimal stress.
- 18/05/2020 MAXIMIZING IMPACT IN RESEARCH PROJECTS
This course aims is to explain the concept and provide researchers and research support staff with guidelines on writing the impact part of Horizon 2020 proposals.
- 3/06/2020 MSCA
This module will provide information on how to write a proposal to apply for postdoc Marie Curie financing from the EU commission.
- 15/06/2020 IPR
This module presents tips and strategies to protect know how and Intellectual property rights in research contracts and collaborative projects.
You must register in advance to the single workshops, since some of them have a restricted number of places (a registration form will be available for each workshop in due time and you will receive notice by email). Attendance to the entire day is mandatory.
The final result of the course is given with the following rule: Independently of the number of workshops followed, if the sum of the scores is greater than 48 the result is A, between 38 and 48 the result is B, between 30 and 37 the result is C.
