SUBJECT AND PROGRAMME OF THE COURSE
Even though academia shares English as a common language, we keep on thinking and talking in the familiar pattern of our own native languages. One and the same word or sentence can be understood differently in the various countries we work with. This quickly leads to costly and time consuming misunderstandings.
It is therefore less important HOW WELL we speak a language technically (vocabulary and grammar), but HOW we speak it, how well we “read between the lines” and how we reach out to international partners and academic audience.
The course will allow to gain surprising insights and a new understanding of international communication. The teaching is highly interactive with playful transfers of the learning contents. The teacher will initiate group work and interaction within the students to make them experience the power and impact of their new communication strategies.
Students to be enrolled should speak intermediate to good English.
DIDACTIC GOALS
To gain surprisingly efficient strategies for globally successful communication:
1) Discover the unwritten rules of global English in academia;
2) Avoid misunderstandings in international co-operations right from the start;
3) Win resources for mutual goals and success.
EXPECTED DIDACTIC RESULTS
After passing the exam, the student will be able to apply the knowledge acquired to:
