Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The Studio which addresses the question of the Architectural Design, on the various scales, in its complexity and multi-disciplinary nature. The studio experience, which integrates the various disciplines that contribute to design education, teaches students, in theory and in practice, to develop and formulate original ideas, including in a research context.

During these studios, students must demonstrate, through an independent formulation of a project, that they are able to develop highly innovative solutions, mastering the entire design procedure and the multiple skills called into play. Indeed, students will be required to develop original solutions to topics that architects are faced with due to increasingly complex problems on the European and international horizon.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi

- acquire knowledge and comprehension skills that provide them with awareness of the experimental work involved in design and express and apply original ideas in this area;

- are capable of developing design solutions coherent with the location and context, even in highly complex urban environments;

- are able to develop highly innovative solutions, mastering the entire design procedure and the multidisciplinary knowledge they have acquired.

Argomenti trattati

The program of the Thematic Studio (first semester) deals with the critical reconstruction of cities in the European context. This year will be chosen the German city of Frankfurt am Main, which center has been recently completely reconstructed according to the original urban settlement of the medieval city.  The areas will be chosen, in connection with prof. Annegret Burg visiting professor from FHP Potsdam, starting from the urban and architectural relevance of the themes and the availability of materials useful to carry out a complex design experience. The themes chosen by the Studio are characterized by the presence of urban design issues in relationship between old and new city construction, identifying these as the main theoretical and practical issues with which architecture must  deal in the future. The Studio plans to focus project research on specific sites linked to the theme of urban reconstruction as a principle of reading a city. Starting from a critical comparison between different experiences of cities that have undergone radical demolitions and cancellations (analyzed through monographic lessons), the project areas and themes will focus on specific case studies, analyzed both on the urban and architectural scale. Intending the reconstructive principle as a point of view through which to investigate the city in its historical dimension - understood as a phenomenon built up over time, often constituted as a superposition of plans, ideas and partial achievements dating back to different eras - it is proposed as a critical and selective act, essential feature of any project. The designing process involves the development of a general urban plan for the reorganization of the area, which takes into account the pre-existing and distinct historical thresholds, with a particular study of a mixed-uses building (residential, public functions) considered from the point of view of compositional, typological and constructive choices. In the final exam the students will have to show a good understanding of the main discussed subjects expressed in their own drawings. Specific bibliographic references will be communicated at the presentation of the Studio and during the communications and group reviews.

Modalità di valutazione

The final evaluation will be referred to both group and individual work and will take place on the basis of the individual works carried out during the year.
