The course is aimed at giving the bases of design of protective and environmental structures with specific application to risk mitigation, where soil-structure interaction plays a dominant role. The specific topics are proposed using a consistent geotechnical/structural design approach in the framework of Eurocodes, and taking into account durability issues of metallic and reinforced concrete structures operating in natural environments.

Knowledge and understanding (DdD1): fundamentals of soil-structure interaction for different types of materials (steel, r/c and FRC) and of the mechanisms of deterioration phenomena.
Applying knowledge and understanding (DdD2): ability to select the key-design parameters and to propose the procedure for their determination, making predictions on the durability behaviour of structures.
Communication skills (DdD4): ability to clearly present the conclusions of the designed mitigation intervention.
Learning skills (DdD5): ability to autonomously increase knowledge with respect to skills taught during classes.
Design of steel, R/C, P/C and FRC structural elements subjected to combined loading actions. Principles of corrosion mechanism for metallic structures; protection and preventions solutions. Concrete deterioration and corrosion of steel reinforcement; pevention, monitoring and repair. Analysis and design of precast embedded pipes and underground structures exposed to lanslide risk. Slope stabilisy analyses with standard and advanced numerical methods. Analysis and Design of stabilizing structures and other intervention measures.
Basics of soil mechanics and of engineering models for soil-structure interaction. Basic knowledge on structural mechanics applied to linear members and R/C and steel structure design. Basic knowledge of properties of construction materials, with specific reference to metallic materials and concrete.
Modalità di valutazione
The exam has a written part and an oral part concerning the discussion of design projects assigned duirng the attendance (further information are published in the specific sheet of each one the three courses).
