Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The second module of the integrated course describes the integrated systems for computer assisted surgery (CAS/CIS) and is suited to students willing to acquire specific competence on technologies, methodologies, open questions and research and development perspectives of CAS/CIS systems.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi

The expected results of this module are related to the capability of students in understanting technologies and methods (HW and SW) applied for image guidance in surgery and radiotherapy, with a specific focus on the issue of registration and on-line acquisition of data during the surgical procedure (DD1).

Argomenti trattati

The course describes the the two crucial phase of a computer assisted surgical proces; the surgical planning (pre-operative phase) and the surgery execution (intra-operative phase). Particular emphasis is given to technologies and methods for the quantitative comparison (registration) of data and images acquired in the intra-operative phase with the pre-operative surgical plan.

Pre-operative phase: acquisition and elaboration of diagnostic images for surgical planning;features extraction; volumetric reconstruction and 3D rendering; surgical planning and surgical simulation systems. Intra-operative phase: technologies and methods for localization, navigation and automation in surgery; reference systems mapping; multimodal registration; anatomical calibration; stereotactic surgery; management of organ motion; intra-operative imaging systems; Image Guided Surgery and Radiotherapy; methods for the acquisition of anatomical surfaces; methods for the detection and on-line  compensation of organ motion

During the practical seminars, a more detailed description of topics introduced during lectures is proposed, together with numerical exercises and topical seminars by experts.

Prerequisiti
