Obiettivi dell'insegnamento
The course covers the aspects related to the generation of sounds from acoustic musical instruments, ranging from vibrational to sound radiation. A detailed analysis of the aspects related to string-based instruments ends the course.
Risultati di apprendimento attesi
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
interpret and design the main components of a musical instrument;
design the electrical circuit equivalent to the instrument under analysis.
Argomenti trattati
Overview of vibrational and acoustic modeling and related descriptors
Overview of acoustic musical instruments and related timbral classes
Excitation strategies and related models
Static and Dynamic Friction models, with examples
Percussion: hammered strings, mallets, etc.
Simple resonators and related models
1D resonators: strings and pipes (bores)
2D resonators: membranes and plates
3D resonators: Helmoltz resonators, cavities
Resonators in musical instruments and related models
Stringed instrument
Lecture notes will be made available and cover the theoretical aspects.
Prerequisiti
The attendance of the course "Fundamentals of vibration analysis and vibroacoustics of Musical Instruments" is warmly recommended.
The attendance of the courses related to signal processing (Multimedia Signal Processing and Sound Analysis, Synthesis and processing) is suggested.
Preparatory material will be distributed upon request.
Modalità di valutazione
The exam consists of a written test and an oral exam. The written test includes questions related to theory and numerical exercises. Students who received a positive grade in the written test can undertake the oral exam, during which aspects related to the theory of Musical Acoustics will be examined.
