The teaching aims to introduce the main theoretical and historiographical issues relating to architecture and urbanism events in modern and contemporary times proposing the student's critical approach.
The lessons offer to students the interpretations of the architectural work, highlighting plurality and modifications of relations and perspectives established in the contemporary period between architecture and history, planning and transformation of the city. Teaching adopt the innovative teaching method of the MOOC Introduction to History of Contemporary Architecture.
The integrated course composes a module of History of Contemporary Architecture, 8 cfu, and a module of History of Modern Art, 4 cfu.

After passing the exam, the student: knows the protagonists, the theories and the themes of the history of contemporary architecture; is able to apply knowledge to specific problems of the intervention sector in historical and monumental contexts; is able to demonstrate independent judgment and communicate the results of their knowledge in a clear and convincing way.
The teaching is built as a path on the main topics of the History of European and American Art and Architecture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We will analyze the evolution of Contemporary Art and Architecture following a division of lectures according to two macro-themes:
The Great Masters of the XX century in Art and Architecture.
Thematic lectures: this section of the teaching aims to deepen the most recent contemporary architectural projects, with particular interest in the relationship with History, the surrounding landscape and the environmental pre-existences.
This teaching adopts the innovative method of the MOOC Introduction to History of Contemporary Architecture (2CFU). The online-course is divided into three weeks, each week is divided into short lectures and, at the end of each week, the knowledge acquired will be tested in a quiz. Once you have successfully passed the course, you can request the Certificate of Accomplishment.
Classroom assignments (the “Weekly Graphic Journal”) are planned and includes several deliveries during the semester.
The Journal is built by the student during the course and each week it focuses on a topic assigned during the lecture: it includes drawings, reflections, quotes from books or articles or short written papers conceived by the student himself. The techniques allowed for the achievement of the Journal are both digital and analogical (then scanned).
During class exercises students will use their own personal computer.
Modalità di valutazione
The teaching final votes is the summation of 4 evaluations: the overall assessment of the Journal, the online course MOOC, the Book Review and the final exam.
Final exam: The final exam focuses on the knowledge of the topics of lectures and bibliography, with particular reference to the visual and temporal knowledge of the proposed architectural buildings.
MOOC: The online-course is organized into different weeks and modules. At the end of each week, you will find a quiz to check your understanding.
Weekly Graphic Journal: The Journal with the related assignmentswill be uploaded weekly by the students on the Beep platform. The evaluation will focus on the comprehensive work done during the semester, covering texts, images and historical research. All Jounal projects shall be on A4 horizontal format, be handwritten using course guidelines and proper labels. Drawings can include plans, sections, elevations and perspective with some use of color.
The Book Review: written exam dedicated to the selected bibliography.
The final evaluation will be divided as follows:
