053008 - ECONOMIC EVALUATION OF PROJECTS
This course aims to provide students with the key principles and tools for the multidimensional evaluation of projects, goods and resources, both public and private, with a particular focus on the estimation of their economic and extra-economic effects.

The students will:
- gain knowledge and understanding of the key scientific and disciplinary pillars of estimation theory;
- gain knowledge and understanding of methods and tools for the economic and multidimensional assessment of a construction/ transformation/ conservation project of the territory throughout its whole life cycle;
- gain knowledge and understanding of the key evaluation approaches for constructing a value judgment when multiple competing projects have to be evaluated in multi-stakeholders’ systems;
- become capable of applying estimate and evaluation approaches in pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
The aim of the course is to provide the theoretical and operational principles of project evaluation.
The teaching method is based on theoretical lectures and exercises.
The main topics covered in the course refer to:
Essentials of Economics;
Principles of Evaluation;
Methods for the evaluation of private investments (Cash Flow Analysis, Business plan);
Environmental Economics and externalities;
Evaluation of public goods (contigent valuation, choice experiment, etc.);
Methods for the evaluation of public investments (Cost Benefit analysis, Multicriteria analysis).

Students will be evaluated individually with respect to an oral exams about the theroretical principles and the methods explained during the course.
The final mark is based on the following criteria:
a) capability of critically discussing the different topics;
b) capabilty of expressing the theoretical principles;
