Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

The “INVEST IN FOREIGN MARKETS LAB” aims at providing students with theoretical and practical skills to set up, manage and expand a foreign venture.

To reach this goal, students will be involved in theoretical lectures, exercises, case studies, business talks, role plays and simulations provided by professors from Politecnico di Milano and by Business Executives from Multinational and Consultancy Companies, who will directly transfer their expertise and experience to the Lab participants.

Additionally, students will gain practical skills by taking part to the global competition “X-culture” (http://x-culture.org/), which will allow them to apply directly the knowledge and capabilities developed during the Lab to plan a real international business project for a real company, by cooperating with a group of peers from other foreign business schools, thus facing the multicultural dynamics that arise in multinational companies.

The course fits into the overall program curriculum pursuing some of the defined general learning goals. In particular, the course contributes to the development of the following capabilities:

  • Design solutions applying a scientific and engineering approach ( Analysis, Learning, Reasoning, and Modeling capability deriving from a solid and rigorous multidisciplinary background ) to face problems and opportunities in a business and industrial environment.
  • Develop new ideas and solutions in business and industrial scenarios evolving over time
  • Interact in a professional, responsible, effective and constructive way in a working environment, also motivating group members.

Modalità di valutazione

The final exam of the “INVEST IN FOREIGN MARKETS LAB” will be composed of three different parts:

  • Project work evaluation: it is based on the final evaluation of the X-culture challenge. The final evaluation depends on the weekly deliveries, peer reviews and final report evaluation. The evaluation is provided by the X-culture organizers. The final grade will be converted on a scale of 30s.
  • Presentation of the project work: Each Global Virtual team (please note: only the components from Politecnico di Milano) will present its project to the X-culture tutors and to the professor. Each student will gain up to 2 additional points on the final grade of the project work (1) based on the clearness and effectiveness of the presentation and on the question asked by the tutor and professors on the content of the project.
  • Short oral exam: Each student will be asked few questions concerning the modules of the Lab (which might be or not be connected to the content of the project). The evaluation will be based on 30s.

The presentation of the project work (2) and the short oral exam (3) will be in the same day and will last about 15 minutes each (i.e. about 30 minutes in total). The final mark will result from the following formula:

Final grade = 50% * [Project work evaluation + Additional points from presentation of the project work] + 50% * [Short Oral Exam]
