According to the Dublin Descriptors (DdD), passing the exam certifies the acquisition of the following results:
DdD 1 (knowledge and understanding), 3 (autonomy of judgment), 4 (communication skills) and 5 (learning ability)
- ability to acquire, process independently and communicate knowledge not strictly related to the subjects characterizing the Master Program (DdD 1, 3, 4 and 5)
As every year from 2014, we will hold also in 2018 the elective Milanese International Architecture Workshop (MIAW): TEN days of intensive design studio characterised by a small amount of students (max 20 per Team) and by the International leadership (SIX Teams is guided by a International Professors/Practitioners).
Since it is a special Teaching module, the workshop takes place in January: kick-off on the 15th and final delivery with exhibition and presentations on the 25th.
Details about the specific theme of 2018 edition will follow during the Semester but the general frame is the following:
The MIAW-Milan International Architecture Workshop is the International intensive programme at the School of Architecture Planning Construction Engineering, it provides an international design forum for schools, teachers and students, but it is also an informal platform to discuss issues and share ambitions that education implies. Its aim is to stimulate cross-over thinking between researches and practitioners in the design field, involving different scales and encouraging an interdisciplinary approach towards design problems. Each class has an International Guest Professor of high profile whose activity and interests are related to the different Study Courses and Disciplinary areas characterising all our school. The general framework of all MIAW2018 workshops is “Milan”, as a permanent interest and cooperation between the School and the Municipality to foster/strengthen the production of visions on the city aiming at improving the quality of its environment. Within this framework, the specific subject or theme exploited by the workshop will be defined by each Guest Professor in charge.
The initiative follows the path of the commitment of the School Architecture Planning Construction Engineering to be a place of preparation and experimental design on the issues of the city of Milan and its metropolitan area.
Selected areas and buildings have been reported by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies and represent a majority of cases recently surveyed because they are in very poor conditions. They are therefore representative of a phenomena of sale, underuse, abandonment of buildings and areas, whether public or private owned, of different size, texture, type. The phenomena affects the city of Milan with a strong negative impact on the quality of life of the urban areas in which they are located and this is of one the main reasons to devote our design energy on these topics.
The evaluation will be carried out taking into account the quality of the project developed and the ability of the student to present it with reference to the topics and themes dealt with in the Studio. The final evaluation will be determined by the contents of the project, by the candidates' exhibition capacity and by the student's work through all the Studio.
The final evaluation will be determined by the candidates' presentation capacity and by quality to answer to the exam questions referring to the arguments and the bibliography discussed in the course.
