We focus on architecture and habitation culture that are thought out “starting from the inside”.

Interior design has always been profoundly Italian territory. Italian culture was the first to assimilate, in a genetic sense, the idea of stratifying material within an interior. It was Italian culture that assorbed the notion of interpreting space has a logical chain that could smouthly ferry the culture of habitation from a recent past to an immediate future.

Working in pairs, the students must redesign a number of single-family houses while attempting to transcribe their often obsolete layouts, reflecting the inevitable modifications that have taken place in the functions of habitation.

Project would be on the scales of 1:100, 1:50 and 1:20, progressively bringing into focus the building’s dimension, the dwelling’s dimension and the interior dimension.

In this workshop time is divided into a ratio between theory and design that is one-third and two-thirds. We assign single-family houses always different ones. Each of them supplies a specific response to the relation between indoors and out; between outlets and utility lines; between built-in furniture and the moveable kind. They are all examples from the second half of the 20^th century , or from the preceding decade, chosen according to very diverse periods and places in order to generate design gymnastics that are not only historical and critical but also from an anthropologically broad base.

This course of studies is not advised to students that cannot guarantee an average participation.

The method of evaluation should be on a main project and three free choosen texts from the bibliography assigned.
