In the Thematic Studio - with a disciplinary characterization with respect to Architectural Design, Environmental Technology Design, Conservation, Interior Architecture or Urban Planning - the student experiments in-depth study of topics related to innovative and advanced research issues in the specific disciplinary area of reference.

According to the Dublin Descriptors (DdD), passing the exam certifies the acquisition of the following results:
DdD 1 knowledge and understanding
- knowledge of advanced tools for the project.
DdD 2 ability to apply knowledge and understanding
- advanced ability to transfer theoretical and technical disciplinary knowledge in project development.
DdD 3 (autonomy of judgment), 4 (communication skills) and 5 (learning ability)
- ability to operate and communicate independently the design choices made (DdD 3, 4 and 5).
Argomenti trattati
Awaken the interest of the students for existing buildings and urban fabrics and for the fact that dealing with existing structures is necessary and can be extremely fascinating and rewarding. Helping the students to acquire appropriate means for the development of design strategies for specific cases. Learn to understand the specific character o a reuse project together with the basic lesson from case to case (caso per caso).The interest will be focused on a didacticaly well chosen building of the 20th century in or near Milan.
Reuse projects on an existing single building or building complex will be elaborated in different scales; 1:200 until scale 1:20 for a representative part of the project. Some objects might need studies at the scale 1:5 to 1:1. Plans and models.
Regular reviews in the atelier will garantee the development of the projects.
Regular specific lectures according to didactic necessity will be held.

The evaluation will be carried out taking into account the quality of the project developed and the ability of the student to present it with reference to the topics and themes dealt with in the Studio. The final evaluation will be determined by the contents of the project, by the candidates' exhibition capacity and by the student's work through all the Studio.
