Obiettivi dell'insegnamento

This course provides the students with the basic elements in the field of land mobility systems management, focusing mainly on systems for people but also for goods and merchandise. The course starts from the analysis of the demand for mobility and the importance of the integration between different modes of transport. The first part of the course refers to the existing infrastructures, rail and road: regulatory framework, safety, management, maintenance and diagnostic, planning and design.

The second part of the course focuses on the transport services and the transaction from transport service to mobility service; basic elements of travel management, maintenance and diagnostic of the rolling stock, rail and road passengers’ services and freight services. The last part of the course deals with future mobility scenarios, considering both industry and the provider of mobility.

Risultati di apprendimento attesi

The goal is to open the mind of the student in the field of mobility system engineering. After completing the course, the students will be able to: 1) have a general insight of the transportation systems behavior; 2) discuss issues related to transportation systems in technical and scientific meetings; 3) read and understand technical documents related to planning and operation of transport systems; 4) roughly identify problems and solutions.

Different projects developed during the course in cooperation with companies, will make it possible for the students to experience the mechanisms of teamwork. Final presentations to the rest of the class will improve communication and public presentation skills.

Modalità di valutazione

The course consists in lessons, case studies and company visits. At the beginning of the course the students will be divided in small teams (5 persons max). A single course long project in collaboration with many transportation companies, will be assigned to each team. At the end of the course the teams are required to prepare a written project report. The final examination consists of an oral presentation and discussion of the project (50% of the evaluation) as well as questions about the entire course program (50% of the evaluation).
