Programma dettagliato e risultati di apprendimento attesi

The course aims at introducing the students in the characteristics of project-based operations and offering them the opportunity to practicing on the tools and techniques for the planning and control of projects. Three sectors will be specifically addressed - Oil and Gas, civil and ICT - in order to share practical techniques to manage small, large and mega projects. For those interested in research on Project Management a specific academic and industrial literature reviewed will be shared

The course deals with the following topics:

  • Project and project management. Project organization along the project life cycle, introducing its importance, perception, design and flexibility
  • Project planning phase: scope, time and cost management in different environment characterized by different level of uncertainty and opportunity
  • Project control phase: scope, time and cost management in different environment characterized by different level of uncertainty and opportunity (as for the planning phase), with introduction of different levels of data availability
  • Project risk Management: identification, quantification and mitigation action 
  • Project management tools: Work Breakdown Structure, Gantt Diagrams, Network Techniques, S curves, EVMS and Project Balance.

Each lesson will be based on an introduction on main topics, the development of working group activities on real case studies and a final debriefing.

Moreover, three testimonial from the industry will be invited covering civil, ICT and Oil and Gas sector.

Submission of a project work assignment that will be framed during the course and then developed by teams composed by 3 or 4 PhD students with different academic backgrounds.
