The course will analyze the role and the properties of processes characteristic of the energy sector in the context of the relationship between production of energy and environmental issues.

Energy and environment: uses, renewable and non renewable energy sources, fossil fuels, local and global pollution.

Fossil and alternative fuels.

Heat engines, power plants, fuel cells.

Renewable sources: hydroelectric, solar, wind, geothermic, tide energy and waste incinerators.

Nuclear energy.

Environment: pollutant emission formation, world regulations, technologies for the control of pollutant emissions form energy-related processes (CO, VOC, soot, SOx, NOx)

There will be frontal lessons, exercises and preparation of personal projects, which will be taken into consideration for the final evaluation.

The course will have lessons, numerical exercises, and a personal work to be prepared in a computer lab.

Exams consist in the evaluation of exercises, of the personal work, and of the knowledge of the contents of the course.
