Detailed Program and expected learning outcomes
Aims
To develop competence concerning the choice of the configuration and the design of the production systems, according to the required performance targets (flexibility, production capacity, lead time, WIP, etc.); to analyze some industrial technologies and related managerial and organizational issues.
Program of lessons and practical classes
- Analysis of the characteristics, scope, design, management and organizational issues of the different configurations of production systems.
- Criteria for the design of manufacturing systems (job shop, manufacturing cells, transfer lines).
- Criteria for the design of manual assembly systems (fixed position assembly, paced and unpaced lines, continuous flow lines, multi-model and mixed-model lines, assembly shop).
- Criteria for the design of automated assembly systems (lines, flexible assembly systems).
- Criteria for the design of process plants.
- Analysis of some industrial technologies (e.g. food, paper, cement, ceramics, glass, semiconductors) and related management and organizational issues.
- Management of the lifecycle of production systems; the obsolescence of the plant and the evaluation of the benefit of the renewal.
Assessment
The examination consists of a written examination on the content of the lessons and exercises and an oral examination as optional.
