Analysis of the evolution of art - mainly painting and sculpture, but with constant link to architecture - in Italy from the Gothic period to the late XVI century, giving information of such major artists as: Giotto, Donatello, Ghiberti, Masaccio, Piero della Francesca, Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, up to Titian, Giulio Romano and Mannerist artists. Artistic techniques will be examined, as well as restoration techniques. Great importance will be given to on field visits, including monuments as the Ducal Palace, Palazzo Te, Sant'Andrea and the cathedral of Mantua, as well as Verona's and Padua's main monuments.

Evaluation of students will be done according to various parameters:

partecipation o lessons and visits;

Mid-term exam (written identification and discussion of images of artworks);

a final paper, about an agreed topic concerning lessons, of ca. 10 pages;

oral exam
