In the last 20 years, a sequence of events led to the current hype on Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence. First there was Cloud Computing, which increased the resources that could be used to run parallel algorithms. Cloud infrastructures led to Big Data, that increased the value that could be extracted from data. Finally, these techniques were applied to huge training sets, increasing the power of deep learning models. These applications, however, come at a high price, which is difficult to predict and control. This course aims at providing performance modeling techniques to properly optimize these systems. |
