Denominazione Insegnamento EDGE NETWORK SOFTWARIZATION: ARCHITECTURES AND APPLICATIONS
Tipo Insegnamento MONODISCIPLINARE
Crediti Formativi Universitari (CFU) 5.0
Programma sintetico This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of edge network softwarization, emphasizing principles, technologies, and architectures for transforming traditional infrastructures into agile, software-driven network ecosystems. Focused primarily on Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology, it explores its role as the main driver behind network softwarization at the edge computing infrastructures. Key topics include enterprise and datacenter inter-networking solutions (e.g. overlay tunneling with VxLAN/IPSec/GRE), centralized orchestration platforms, dynamic traffic management (e.g. traditional vs AI-based methods), policy-based automation (e.g. gRPC/NETCONF/REST APIs), and performance monitoring techniques. This course provides students with a comprehensive knowledge of edge network softwarization, emphasizing fundamental principles, cutting-edge technologies, and innovative architectures to transform traditional infrastructures into agile, software-driven ecosystems. Focusing on Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology, it allows to provide intelligence at the edges of the network. Topics include enterprise and datacenter inter-networking solutions, covering overlay tunneling with VxLAN, IPSec, and GRE for seamless connectivity and security in distributed environments. Centralized orchestration platforms and dynamic traffic management are explored, comparing traditional methods with AI-based approaches for optimal performance and resource allocation. Additionally, policy-based automation is discussed, utilizing protocols like gRPC, NETCONF, and REST APIs to streamline network operations and scalability. Advanced performance monitoring techniques tailored for edge networks are also examined, enabling students to evaluate network health, pinpoint bottlenecks, and optimize resource utilization.
