The objective of this course is to give an introduction to the capabilities of Software Defined Radios (SDR), providing students with the elements needed to understand how they can use them in their own research and development activities, bolstering theoretical results with experimental validations. After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:
(1) Know the main components of a SDR, their functions and how to configure them for different applications.
(2) Understand the technical specifications of SDRs and evaluate if an SDR is suitable for their application.
(3) Recognize the effect of different hardware impairments and be able to compensate for them.
(4) Know the main programming tools for SDRs and be able to use them in their own research activities.
(5) Able to create an ad-hoc communication systems and deploy stand-alone 5G Private networks
(6) Know how to write code for a Linux kernel through eBPF and be able to apply this knowledge to program a SmartNIC
(7) Know the main ways to integrate SDRs at all levels of the OSI Stack. |
