NETWORKS & COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAMMABILITY: HARDWARE, SOFTWARE AND RESEARCH TOOLS |
| Course Type |
MONO-DISCIPLINARY COURSE |
| Credits (CFU / ECTS) |
5.0 |
| Course Description |
This comprehensive course dives into the transformative power of software-defined paradigms across different communication layers, from the fundamental principles of communication such as channel modeling and modulations, to advanced topics like private 5G network deployments using Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) frameworks. Participants will gain insight into the programmable aspects of communication systems in several layers of the OSI stack.
Through hands-on exploration of Software Defined Radios (SDRs) for flexible physical layer implementations and an in-depth look at end-host network programmability, the course will cover modern techniques leveraging OpenAirInterface, in-kernel technologies such as eBPF, and the use of hardware accelerators on SmartNICs. This approach will arm attendees with a diverse set of skills, enhancing their ability to implement, control, and optimize communication systems, and preparing them to address, and innovate in, the multifaceted challenges inherent to the ICT sector. |
