Course Description |
Mission of the course:
Introducing and discussing design criteria for urban regeneration, on the background of contemporary global challanges such as climate change.
A sustainable approach is defined, integrating environment, economy and socio-cultural goals.
The teaching focus is on the method, in order to prepare students to deal with complex innovative projects. The scale of the masterplan is ideed the strategic one for contemporary city transformation and resiliency.
Main topics and teaching organization:
Starting from urban design and planning principles for the regeneration of dismissed areas, the course explores the masterplan shift towards sustainability. Main topics are: environmental/energy infrastructure platform supporting building physics, open space system, innovative mobility and connections to the context; participatory process, placemaking and value creation; built/cultural heritage and digital transition; real estate impact strategies.
Lecturers discuss the method evolution at the interdisciplinary border; concepts are presented through international cases, most of them designed or managed by the lecturers themselves, who belong to world class firms.
Site visits and workshops are organized: students are accompanied to test their methodological comprehension developing an early draft-masterplan (sketches) for a transformation area in Milan, working in teams. |
