Course Description |
The course covers two areas of Information Technology which are particularly relevant for ABC PhD students:
- Information Modelling (in particular spatial information)
- Data Analysis
The first part of the course deals with the general problems, tools and methodologies for information modelling both at conceptual and at physical level, with particular attention to the interoperability aspects; examples taken from some real-life interoperability models, related to the domain of architecture, town-and-country planning and civil engineering, are analyzed.
Then the characteristics of spatial information is investigated and the additional complexities created by spatial information in the application of the general information modelling approaches is considered; the main concepts underlying recent standards in the fields of GIS and BIM are presented.
The second part introduces the main topics of data analysis, including statistical methods and data mining. After this general introduction we will deal, more specifically, with the methods of data analytics used with spatial data, namely time series analysis for temporal data, geospatial data mining algorithms (agglomerative/density-based clustering, classification, association), and visualization approaches. |
