Programma sintetico |
The course will cover the main aspects of the application of hard and soft X-rays generated from synchrotron sources or free electron lasers, for the structural and spectroscopic characterization of materials. The course will be offered also to PhD students of PhD Programs other than Materials Engineering and Physics of Politecnico di Milano; in particular attendance of students of the PhD programs in Energy and Nuclear Science and Technology and Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is expected.
The following areas will be covered: a) elastic X-ray scattering (to be employed for single crystal or powder diffraction experiments, including serial diffraction with free electron lasers); b) imaging methods (tomography, ptychography and coherent diffraction imaging); c) time resolved free electron laser diffraction for the determination of excited states; d) inelastic x-ray scattering and spectroscopy
The program will consist of 20 lectures (45 minutes each) given by the invited external lecturers and the internal lecturers, covering the topics outlined above. The students will be also requested to prepare contribution for a final journal club that will be the final examination, to be held during the concluding session. |
