The course aims at describing the changes to be made to the ordinary hydrodynamic
approach when flow scales become comparable to atomistic scales. Starting from the classical Liouville equation,
a kinetic theory of fluids is formulated (when possible) and the connections with hydrodynamics are highlighted.
Fluid-solid interaction models are described to derive velocity and temperature slip relationships to be applied
to the study of flows in micro/nano-channels. In addition to the the basic theoretical concepts, the course gives
a succinct presentation of the computational tools (Direct Simulation Monte Carlo, Molecular Dynamics) required
by micro/nano flows modeling. |
