Course Type |
MONO-DISCIPLINARY COURSE |
Credits (CFU / ECTS) |
5.0 |
Course Description |
The course is devoted to present the fundamentals of the Distinct Element Method (DEM) and to show its application to granular materials and blocky systems, such as rock masses and stone structures.
During the course students will learn what problems are best suited for a DEM approach compared to other numerical or analytical methods.
Students will be given rules for a reliable model set-up and the choice of the appropriate parameters. Modelling strategy and the procedure of the simulations will also be thoroughly discussed through practical |
